GILES - Company Insight

Giles Deacon launched his stand alone collection in 2004, reviving the excitement around London fashion. He uses a mix of gimmicky fun sources, such as pacmen combined with elegant fabrics and cuts. to create his own unique signature.

The most memorable collection for me was the 2007 Fall with amazing oversize knitwear.
Each collection he produces is always something very new but identifiable as a Giles look.

Previous inspiration had been taken from cult figures, underground films and geeky teen pass times.

London fashion week - Trends

2 of the over whelming themes i spotted this LFW where miss matched paneling, collaging of garments seems like it is going to be popular next summer, Asymmetric designs using contrasting fabrics, create a hand made feel to the garments it seems there is a need to be individual.

Seventies style has come back big time, it seems you cant escape it at the moment

DAY 4 - London fashion week Continued..

The exhibition at somerset house had some really interesting designer this season.

Loved the Yunus & Eliza jewelry
'Sculpture to be worn' Quirky renassance style forms transformed into really beautiful jewelry.

I didn't manage to get to the Holly Fulton show but there were a few dresses of hers on show at the exhibition. which i really loved.

DAY 4 - London fashion week Continued..

Mark Fast

Mark fasts first stand alone show at LFW did not disappoint. 'this collection is to generate a feeling of hope in the face of destruction.'

The collection started entirely black featuring spiderweb like layered knits and fringing, bursts of tropical brights gradually become more intense. I loved the way swarovski was used in the garments creating movement.

Mark collaborated with christian Louboutin on the shoes for the collection.

Mark fast describes how the recent oil spills inspired his collection.

DAY 4 - London fashion week

Peter Pilotto

Drawing influence from unexpected sources ranging from Californian retro rock climbers and their colorful sports paraphenalia to multicolored muscle illustrations.

Starting with cleverly cut pure white garments with paneled draping followed by an injection of pastel blues and intense prints. The colour levels and style of some looks seem to have some similarity to the Micheal Van der Ham show, i guess these 2 are really onto something for next summer.

I really loved the show in particular the muscle like knitwear. the fact the collection is so wearable and original i find really inspiring.

Day 3 london fashion week continued..

Vauxhall fashion scout for the 'Fashion MODE' show. A bi-annual showcase of 4 new designer, didn't have a clue what to expect from this one but it was a pleasant surprise. The show consisted of 2 womenswear and 2 menswear designers...

First up Carlotta Actis Barone

I really liked her use of graphic text as a print in this collection. Quite literally wearing her political views on her sleeve with the garments covered in anti racism text taking inspiration from the fight against racism before the civil war in America.

Florian Jayet

this collection had a futuristic feel with simple tones but focus on textile design

After the show i caught a quite show reel by LALL London.

I loved some of the accessories in this video

A snippet from the presentation..

Day 3 london fashion week continued..

Michael Van Der Ham showed with NEWGEN in the topshop space this season.

For Van Der Ham's first solo show we saw his unique ultra-feminine style maintained developing his signature panelled garments, a collage of mismatched clothing teaming a long sleeve resembling a overcoat into an elegant short evening dress.

Van Der Ham sources his vast amount of fabrics from diverse decades and countries, for the first time custom-made materials were added. The prints and textures working in were a personal highlight of mine. Van der ham's style is a tricky style to pull off but He does make a create job of it, i loved the collection.

Day 3

Started the day with the charlie Le mindu show at On|Off.

The cult hair stylist puts his skill to use to create sculptural wigs and garments, for his forth collection he maintained his London club cult image with pop pink and black hair teamed with leopard print trashy leotards. He is definitely a high light of London fashion week, the quirky shocking club kids style that gives London its unique edge on other cities. Fashion for the sake of fashion, Le mindu used fully nude models in his show, with focus on hair and accessories.

Then to somerset house for the Clemency Private screening of the s/s11 show reel shot by Rankin.

The Clemency presentation used a set live models, mannequins, photography and a show reel. the room was unlit with the models standing in the center shadowed in darkness, creating an atmosphere that really suited the grungy edge leathers and lace garments on show. They really did cover all aspects a presentation requires, it was great to be able to get up cloes to the clothing.

DAY 2 - London fashion week.. Continued

Next to vauxhall Fashion Scout, for Carlotta Gherzi and Fashion shenzhen shows.

First was Carlotta Gherzi..

A designer i knew absolutely nothing about before attending the show. The collection was called 'Underwater' a ultra wearable collection for an 'urban girl'. The designs used Beach inspired pebble prints with simple textile techniques such as panels of pleating. The whole collection hit the nail on the head for its target market but for me i felt it lacked innovation, not a collection that took my breath away but I can appreciate its appeal and can see it selling well!

Next up was Fashion shenzhen, the most bizarre Fashion show i have been to.. the show was in 2 parts. The first saw Haiping Xie's Collection a twist on traditional oriental fashion, There were some great elements to this part of the show, Xie 'aimed to spread cultural awareness of the orient'. A wide range of techniques and embellishments were used in this part of the show, Xie managed to maintain a clear oriental style but in an original contemporary way.

An interval between parts saw a short film promoting the highlights of Shenzhen in China, Quite unexpected during a fashion show, but i guess the show was aiming to be more than just a show but to highlight how proud the participators were to be the first to show their collections at lfw with was quite nice really.

The second part was called 'ground show' a more wearable half of the show, the looks were completely different to the first half but highlighted a different aspect of the country.
